DONMAR WAREHOUSE

The Donmar Warehouse broke records on May 7 2015 with over 550,000 people watching James Graham’s play The Vote live on the night, set in a fictional London polling station, live on the night of the general election.  The Vote starred Judi Dench, Catherine Tate and Mark Gatiss among the 50-strong cast and was shown in real time, between 8.30pm and 10pm, as the polls across the UK closed.

Act IV worked with the Donmar on a live screening of the play for a select guestlist, followed by an all night after party for cast, crew, and friends of the Donmar from the London stage.  With the Ham Yard Hotel and cinema providing a suitably stylish backdrop , the programme was set for an exciting night – no matter the results!

Critical to the event’s success was how we shaped the different peaks and flows – providing guests with a varied menu, opportunity to engage with the developing political broadcast, and space to relax in each other’s company.  Activities included live sets from the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars; a DIY photo booth; and our very own ‘student forum’ where real-time election data was crunched, mapped and interpreted by our resident experts from UCL.

Truly the theatre world’s election party, it was a survivor’s breakfast to remember with bacon sandwiches and Bloody Marys at 4am…

“Thank you for the most wonderful evening. That was – without question – the best first (and last) night party ever!”
Josie Rourke, Artistic Director, Donmar Warehouse
